Water Pick-up
Dyno-tab® Diesel Treatment and Dyno-tab® PLUS keep water dispersed/entrained in the fuel so that it can be safely burned in the combustion chamber during the combustion process.
Water in fuel - gasoline/petrol, diesel or any of the widely used commercial fuel oils - is a serious problem. The sources for water in fuel are varied and many. Humidity and ground water leaks into underground storage tanks are the most common. Because oil based molecules are lighter than water molecules, when water contaminates fuel, water will precipitate, or drop out of suspension and form a layer of nearly pure H20 at the bottom the tank. This will cause corrosion and forms a rich habitat for microbial growth - generally algae. If the tanks are run low, the fuel pickup tube will eventually begin the draw this water and the engine will stall. This could lead to serious engine damage. Both microbial growth and/or the introduction of water, can result in significant costs, including down time to remediate the situation.
Technicians agree that keeping the water in solution and allowing it to burn off, molecule by molecule, is the best way to avoid costly results from water contamination.
Dyno-tab® Plus chemistry is proven to entrain water and keep
it in suspension where it can be safely burned in the combustion chamber.
We retained an EPA approved laboratory to test the ability of Dyno-tab® to keep water entrained in hydrocarbon fuel. This protocol tests for the PPM of H2O in fuel. The results are graphed below.
Graph 1. Water and Gasoline OnlyWhen water is added to gasoline and allowed to set, Bar 1 shows the amount of water that is entrained (suspended) in fuel. Bar 2 shows how much water is suspended in water immediately following aggressive agitation and Bar 3 show amount of water suspended when the sample is allowed to sit quietly for 4 hours. The results prove that water will temporarily be entrained in fuel due to aggessive agitation, but will precipitate back out over a short period of time. |

Graph 2. Water, Gasoline and Dyno-tab® PlusThe same amount of water is placed in a gasoline/petrol sample that has been additized with Dyno-tab® Plus chemistry. When agitated, the sample initially suspends the same as the agitated sample in Graph 1. However, not only does that amount of water stay in suspension, it actually increases on a subsequent test conducted one week later. |

Graph 3. Water, Diesel Fuel and Dyno-tab®In this case, No.2 Diesel Fuel is additized with Dyno-tab® Plus chemistry. The first bar shows the baseline with without agitation, second bar shows the PPM of water with aggressive agitation and final bar shows that the sample retains almost all of the water is suspension. |
